Highlights of MI vs PBKS : Punjab Kings faced fifth straight defeat, which hurting their playoff hopes, as Mumbai Indians cruised to a six-wicket victory in a crucial IPL encounter on yesterday riding on a clinical batting effort from Tilak Varma who scored 75 and Shardul Thakur’s four-wicket haul.

On invitation of batting first, Prabhsimran Singh (57) added a 33-ball 50-run opening stand with Priyansh Arya (27) to take PBKS to 55 for 1 in the powerplay and then added 57 runs with Cooper Connolly to go past the 100-run mark in the 12th over.

Shardul Thakur (4/39) brought Mumbai Indians back into the match with a four-wicket burst but PBKS managed in the last three overs to pile up 53 runs to post a competitive 200 for 8.

Chasing the target, despite Rohit Sharma’s scratchy 25 at the other end, Ryan Rickelton came out blazing as he single-handedly propelled Mumbai Indians to 59 for no loss.

With three wickets for 57 runs between the seventh and 13th overs, PBKS fought back, but Tilak Varma with an unbeaten 33-ball 75 lead the chase superbly. He first with Sherfane Rutherford (20) stitched a 61-run stand off 42 balls and then combined with Will Jacks to steer Mumbai Indians home in 19.5 overs.

This loss of Punjab Kings severely dented playoff hopes of Punjab Kings as they now need to win both their balance matches to stay in league for a top-four finish.

From the last five overs 72 runs needed, Rutherford and Tilak Varma attacked Chahal and collected 20 runs in one over. Tilak Varma continued the chase confidently even after Rutherford fell.

In the 18th over, he hit Marco Jansen for two sixes and a four, which went for 22 runs and pushed score of Mumbai Indians ahead in the match. Tilak completed the chase with two sixes in the last over when need 15 runs to win.
